India represents 80% of the global production of turmeric and acts as a major turmeric exporter. Turmeric production in 2018-19 was 389 thousand tonnes, with a 246 thousand hectare area and 5646.34 kg per hectare area and productivity.

In 2020, India earned 201,152 Thousand US Dollars as a net profit from the export of turmeric from India in the foreign market. In the past year, the United States was the top importer of Indian turmeric, with 22% of total export value, followed by Bangladesh (18%), Iran (6%), and the United Arab Emirates (5%). Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Morocco, Germany, and Japan are among the other countries that leverage turmeric export from India.
